From Nobody To Somebody - A One Shot

From Nobody To Somebody

"Dad,I want to quit.I don't think that I can ever be a good player. Those boys, they play so good & one of them says that he's the best. And he clearly is. He is the best player among us."
Rohit was busy sipping his morning coffee with full delight when his trance was broken by his son's words. He looked intently at Aarav's face trying to figure out what actually made him this weak? The fear of failure perhaps. As far as he knew, his son was very clear about his interests.  He always loved playing football.

"Don't you like playing football Aarav?"  Rohit asked
Aarav looked up on hearing this question  sighed hard.
"I do Dad. I love playing football. But there's a difference in loving something & being good at it." Aarav replied pouring his heart out to his father. Perks of being a child of understanding parents. You can share with them whatever you want & they guide you for good.
"But if you really love something, then you should not let it go that easily right?"  Rohit tried to make him understand.

"But Dad" Aarav was about to say something but was interrupted in the middle.
"Okay. Look,as you said, you think that you are the worst player amongst your group. But that is somewhere an advantage no?"  Rohit smiled.
"Advantage?" Aarav asked giving a puzzled look. His facial expressions clearly depicting his thoughts.
                 "My Dad has gone nuts"

"Yes,advantage. If you think that you're worst at doing something then you have all the opportunities to improve, to be good at it. Sulking over your incapabilities won't help. It would only provide you with a bunch of stress. Your little efforts will lead you to great changes. I'm not telling you to rush. Take baby steps, but try. You can't imagine how content you'll feel with your small achievements. Everyday, every moment you'll learn.

It's not just about football, but about everything we do in life. We learn when we try. Nobody's perfect. The idea of perfection is an imaginary concept in itself. Nothing's perfect. Except the nature of course, nature's perfect beauty.

And about being the best.Son, I would never advice you to become the best. Because that would close all the doors for further improvement. That's the peak point where you'll be stuck. I want you to become better, gradually, taking all your time. Success comes with efforts & efforts take time to reach results. Remember, the more the struggle, the greater the success."
Rohit took a deep breath as he concluded. Being an optimist was a tiring job. He thought.
Aarav was looking keenly at his father all the while.

"So you still wanna quit?"  Rohit smiled & asked.
"No way. Not at least before trying enough."  Aarav smiled back
"Thank God! You said no. Or else my speech would have been wasted." Rohit chuckled as the duo shared a laugh.

There are Aaravs around us, in us sometimes. Afraid of failure, facing inferiority complex, thinking themselves to be losers.
Remember, you have a long way to go. There's a journey awaiting. A journey from Nobody to Somebody. From nothing to something. Till then stay blessed and never give up.

Thank You for your time.
