Everything you need to know about Kabaddi World Cup, 2016. Indian squad and its captain announced
Kabaddi World Cup, 2016
If I talk about five years back
from now, in India, Kabaddi was not that popular sport as it is now. People
just knew that there is an Indian Kabaddi Team, who is grabbing medals at
international stage. But rarely anyone saw those matches. People didn’t even
know who the players were.
But thanks to Pro Kabaddi League, which was inaugurated
in 2014. This tournament was the turning point for Kabaddi as a sport and for
its players. The sport gradually became too popular and was also successful in
increasing the sport’s fan base in India.
On 7th October, 2016
Kabaddi World Cup, organised by International Kabaddi Federation (IKF), will
kick off. The federation can expect huge number of fans cheering for the teams.
The duration of the World Cup would be from 7th October to 22nd
October. Matches would take place at TransStadia, Ahmedabad, a world class
pitch.
There will be 12 world class
teams participating in the World Cup, which are, USA, England, India,
Australia, Iran, Poland, Thailand, Bangladesh, South Korea, Japan, Argentina
and
Kenya. India is participating for the 3rd time in this World cup
and is one of the most experienced team in the tournament.
These 12 teams will be divided
into 2 pools of 6 teams each. Therefore India can expect a tough competition
against the teams in its pool, having, Bangladesh, England, Australia, South
Korea and Argentina.
The Indian Kabaddi Team for the
World Cup was announced on 20th September, 2016 by Dr. Mrs. Mridul
Bhadauria, President of Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI). The
President (AKFI) believes that they have selected the best players of the
world, from India. She also says that the current Indian Kabaddi team is a
Dream Team for the nation, because it contains the best players from all over
the India. Anup Kumar has been selected as the captain, to lead the team in the
World Cup.
The jersey of Team India was also
unveiled on 20th September by the Iconic former Indian Cricketer and
World Cup winning captain, Mr. Kapil Dev.
India will face South Korea on
the first day of the World Cup, i.e, 7th October, 8:00 pm. As an
Indian it’s my request to all my other fellow Indians to support and cheer for
Team India as much as you can.
We believe in Team India and we believe they
will perform their best.
Thank You for your time.
